Marking the first anniversary of the historic TEPA agreement, PM Modi and Swiss President Guy Parmelin addressed the 2nd India-EFTA Prosperity Summit to unlock a $100 billion investment partnership and create 1 million jobs in India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Swiss President Guy Parmelin addressed the 2nd India-EFTA Prosperity Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The high-level gathering marks the first anniversary of the landmark Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) between India and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), which officially entered into force on October 1, 2025.
- Ambitious Summit Theme: The core theme of the 2026 summit is “Building a USD 100 Billion Investment Partnership, creating 1 Million Jobs in India,” focusing on reviewing TEPA's progress and accelerating industry-government collaboration.
- Multilateral Participation: The summit brought together senior government officials, industry leaders, and key stakeholders from India and the four EFTA States: Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein.
- Bilateral Foundation: Building on earlier bilateral talks at Hyderabad House, PM Modi and President Parmelin reinforced commitments to democratic values and signed critical agreements promoting transportation technologies, mobility systems, and infrastructure.
- Expanding Economic Horizons: The summit serves as a platform to announce new cross-border investments and unlock unprecedented opportunities in trade, technology collaboration, and deep-tech innovation.
The successful first year of TEPA demonstrates a paradigm shift in India's FTA strategy, explicitly linking tariff concessions to binding foreign direct investment (FDI) commitments. Securing $100 billion from the EFTA bloc over 15 years will drastically reduce India's reliance on traditional investment channels, accelerating high-end manufacturing, precision engineering, and the clean energy transition essential for realizing a $5 trillion economy.
