Internal Security & Defence: MoD Signs ₹586 Crore Contract for Tank APUs
22 Sep 2026
The Defence Ministry signed a ₹586 crore contract with Accurate Industrial Controls Pvt. Ltd. to procure indigenous Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) for T-72 and T-90 tanks under the Make-II initiative.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed a significant contract worth ₹586 crore with New Delhi-based Accurate Industrial Controls Private Limited. The contract, signed in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, is for the procurement of Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) for the Indian Army's frontline T-72 and T-90 battle tanks.
- What is an APU?: The Auxiliary Power Unit serves as a crucial alternate source of electrical power for the tank's fire control system, firing circuit, gun stabilisation system, and other vital ancillaries when the main engine is turned off.
- Enhancing Operational Readiness: The induction of these indigenously developed APUs will drastically reduce the wear and tear on the main engines, thereby strengthening the operational readiness, reliability, and sustainability of the Army’s Mechanised Formations.
- Boost to 'Make-II' Initiative: The project demonstrates the success of the Make-II category (industry-led research and development) in translating indigenous innovation into the active production and induction of critical defence hardware.
Procuring critical sub-systems for heavy armoured platforms from domestic MSMEs is a major leap towards self-reliance (Aatmanirbharta). By eliminating import dependencies for critical components like APUs, the Indian military ensures a secure, uninterrupted supply chain and insulates its combat readiness from global geopolitical shocks.
