CBSE Mandates 3-Language Formula for Classes 9 & 10: Two Native Indian Languages Compulsory

Aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, CBSE has mandated the study of three languages for Class 9 and 10 students, effective July 1, 2026. Students must study at least two native Indian languages. However, no student will be barred from Class 10 board exams due to the third language.

📚 Key Guidelines of the New Rule:
- Native Language Rule: At least two out of the three chosen languages must be native to India.
- Foreign Languages: Students can study a foreign language as the third language only if the first two are native Indian languages, or they can opt for it as an additional fourth language.
- No Board Exam Barring: A major relief is that no student will be barred from appearing in the Class 10 Board Exams due to the third language (R3).
- Internal Assessment: All assessments for the third language (R3) at the Class 10 level will be entirely school-based and internal. The performance will reflect on the CBSE certificate.
🏫 Challenges for Schools
While the move aligns with NEP 2020, many school principals have expressed concerns over its sudden implementation in the middle of an academic session. Schools are facing practical challenges regarding the availability of qualified native language teachers, timetable restructuring, and the increased academic load on students.

राष्ट्रीय शिक्षा नीति (NEP) 2020 के तहत, CBSE ने 1 जुलाई 2026 से 9वीं और 10वीं कक्षा के छात्रों के लिए 3 भाषाओं का अध्ययन अनिवार्य कर दिया है। इसमें कम से कम दो मूल भारतीय भाषाएं होनी चाहिए। हालांकि, बोर्ड ने स्पष्ट किया है कि तीसरी भाषा के कारण किसी को 10वीं की बोर्ड परीक्षा देने से नहीं रोका जाएगा।

📚 नए नियमों की मुख्य बातें:
- भारतीय भाषाओं पर जोर: छात्रों को तीन में से कम से कम दो भारतीय भाषाएं (जैसे हिंदी, संस्कृत, क्षेत्रीय भाषाएं आदि) चुननी होंगी।
- विदेशी भाषा के नियम: छात्र किसी विदेशी भाषा (जैसे फ्रेंच, जर्मन) को तीसरी भाषा के रूप में तभी पढ़ सकते हैं जब अन्य दो भारतीय भाषाएं हों, या फिर इसे चौथी अतिरिक्त भाषा के रूप में चुना जा सकता है।
- बोर्ड परीक्षा पर असर नहीं: CBSE ने स्पष्ट किया है कि तीसरी भाषा (R3) की वजह से किसी भी छात्र को 10वीं की बोर्ड परीक्षा में बैठने से नहीं रोका जाएगा।
- आंतरिक मूल्यांकन: 10वीं कक्षा में तीसरी भाषा (R3) के लिए कोई बोर्ड परीक्षा नहीं होगी। इसका पूरा मूल्यांकन स्कूल स्तर पर (Internal Assessment) होगा और मार्क्स CBSE सर्टिफिकेट में दर्ज किए जाएंगे।
🏫 स्कूलों के सामने चुनौतियां
यह कदम राष्ट्रीय शिक्षा नीति (NEP 2020) के अनुरूप है, लेकिन शैक्षणिक सत्र के बीच में इसे लागू करने से स्कूलों के सामने मुश्किलें आ रही हैं। योग्य भाषा शिक्षकों की कमी, टाइमटेबल में बदलाव और छात्रों पर अकादमिक बोझ बढ़ने को लेकर कई स्कूलों ने चिंता व्यक्त की है।
